New Works

My latest portrait series is in response to how I perceive others both physically and metaphorically. These paintings begin as charcoal drawings and then become layered in oil paint which is removed or built up in strategic ways. The faces are the most highly developed area of focus, as we perceive people mostly through recgonition of the face. The other features are mostly blocked in, similarly to how we perceive features at the edges of our vision. The layers communicate complexity but are rendered in such a way as to also communicate fragility.
